Looking after yourself: Health and Wellbeing for Carers, family and friends

Supporting somebody with mental ill health can be isolating and daunting. Meeting with others who have similar experiences, learning new skills and improving your existing knowledge can make life as a carer much easier. This course provides you with a better understanding of the problems you may face as a carer and helps you to build the skills needed to make your life easier.

This course has been developed in partnership with a number of the Trust’s carers to make the course specific for people who care for people with dementia, mental health and/or substance misuse problems.

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand the many roles a carer may take on and the impact it can have on your own health and wellbeing
  • Better understand the stress and anxiety that can be experienced by carers, as well as practical ways to deal with it
  • Learn effective ways to manage difficult situations in your caring role
  • Learn how to navigate mental health services as a carer
  • Meet other carers and learn to relax and take time for yourself.
