Family Law (The Basics)

This course will focus on an overall summary of Family Law, including basic information about domestic abuse, arrangements for children upon separation, Children’s Services (Public Children Law) and divorce.

This course would be very useful for anybody who wants to know a bit more about their legal rights and options when undergoing separation, or experiencing domestic abuse, or having issues in relation to arrangements for their children or with Children’s Services.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will understand more about:

  • What domestic abuse is and the different forms that it can take
  • What legal options are available to victims of domestic abuse, both under the criminal law and the civil law
  • The role of Mediation in family law
  • Child Arrangements Orders
  • The powers and statutory duties that Children’s Services have and owe to families
  • How to obtain a divorce
  • The basics of resolving financial issues upon divorce
  • The availability of Legal Aid to help fund representation from a Family Law Solicitor.
